A Winsome Smile; A Guide in Obtaining a Good Dental Insurance Plan

from:

Have you suffered from a recurring tooth decay which affects your daily routine?

Are your teeth bothersome because they are misaligned?

Maybe it is time to visit your dentist and have a thorough dental check-up. However there are times that going to a dental visit is quite a burden to everyone since most dental expenses are quite costly.

You do not have to worry. You can always buy a dental insurance to cover your dental expenses, or at least a portion of them.

Dental insurance is differently designed if you compare it with life insurance. Most coverage for dental treatments is intended to guarantee that you get a stable and routinely a dental preventive care.

There are different dental insurance plans available. You have to carefully choose which will be most suitable and beneficial to you. Some of the factors you might want to consider on getting a dental insurance plan are:

Type of Dental Coverage

Not all dental treatments and procedures are being covered by an insurance company. You have to be keen on selecting a plan which will cover all your dental needs. Routine dental care may consist of oral surgery, periodontics, and restorative care. While major dental care may include orthodontics, dental implants and prosthodontics.

Third Parties

This type of plan is usually handled by a third party. You or your company either has an agreement with the third party to take care of your coverage. The third party is responsible for dealing out the disbursement of your rate and claims.

Your Chosen Dentist

Some dental insurance plan allows you to choose your own dentist. While others limit your choices in selecting a dentist, some insurance companies do this to offer you cost-effective rates.

Paying Your Dentist

If you choose to buy a dental insurance plan, it is essential to be aware of the things you are paying for and the people you are disbursing money to. There are three types of payment modes to a dentist with regards to the extent of treatment provided.

• Indemnity Plans will pay your dentist the traditional way. Your third party will have to pay your dentist after each consultation or treatment.

• Capitation Plans pay your dentist on a per capita basis instead of the traditional way. Normally this type of plan is being offered to patients who signed up on selected dentist providers.

• Direct Reimbursement Plans are self-funded plans. You will have to directly pay your dentist and ask for a receipt on whatever dental fees you have incurred. Your employer will then compensate your dental expenses after you have given them the receipts they need.

Payment Calculations

There are four payments schemes which you may opt to choose in your dental insurance plan which will give you a clear picture of what you are paying for.

• Capitation requires you to pay for dental expenses not included in your dental plan.

• Table of Schedule of Allowances determines a specific amount of money allowed to cover for your dental procedures.

• Direct reimbursement works in a way that you have to directly pay your dentist and reimburse any fees from your employer.

• Usual, Customary & Reasonable (UCR) as the name implies, shows the fees are paid based on a permanent percentage which is considered by the insurance company to be UCR. Payments are commonly directed to dentists.

With some of the above-guidelines, you can start choosing and evaluating what specific dental insurance plan will be good for you and your family.

Start a healthy well-being with hale and hearty teeth!
